Levi Colwill builds focus with bricks

Levi Colwill played a decisive role in Chelsea’s final Premier League match of the 2024/25 season. The 22-year-old defender scored the only goal in a narrow 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest, ensuring the Blues clinched fourth place in the table. The result guaranteed Chelsea a return to the Champions League next season.

Just days later, Colwill and his teammates celebrated more success. Chelsea overcame a first-half deficit to defeat Real Betis 4-1 in the Conference League final on Wednesday night, ending the season on a high note.

Overcoming setbacks and staying focused

This campaign hasn’t been without its difficulties for the England international. The early months of the season proved testing under new head coach Enzo Maresca. Colwill experienced a drop in form, marked by mistakes and a visible lack of self-belief.

Things weren’t much smoother the year before. Under then-manager Mauricio Pochettino, the defender was often played out of his natural position, operating as a left-back rather than in central defense. The switch drew criticism and affected his overall impact on the pitch.

Finding peace in a surprising place

To stay mentally strong during tough periods, Colwill turned to an unexpected source of calm – LEGO. He explained that the hobby helped him escape from the demands of professional football.

“It takes your mind off everything,” he said in an interview with The Guardian. He began building during a difficult stretch last season and chose the Home Alone set, pairing the activity with the film playing in the background. The timing, around the festive period, added to the experience.

A TikTok video initially inspired him to start building. The activity reminded him of childhood and brought a sense of comfort and simplicity. “You’re not thinking about anything else,” Colwill shared. “You feel safe; there’s no stress.”

As teammates prepare for holidays in luxury destinations after their European triumph, Colwill is planning something more in line with his newfound passion – a visit to LEGOLAND. “I’ll be there,” he confirmed.
