Lautaro Martinez makes transfer decision amid Chelsea interest

Chelsea and Tottenham are keen to land Lautaro Martinez to bolster their attack. However, the return of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan could scupper their chances of landing the Argentine striker.

The Serie A has provided several intrigues in the past, and last season was no different. The Juventus juggernaut had rolled on for about a decade with no panacea for stopping it. It had become a right for Juventus to show up and claim the title despite the personnel they possess. It continued until Antonio Conte showed up. The Italian was part of the Juve juggernaut, and he showed Serie A how to stop Juventus.

With his Inter Milan side loaded with about the two most fearsome strikers in the league, a deadly combination that put fear into all defences, he wrestled the title away from his former club. Conte left Serie A. With half of the Inter attack cut out in the form of Romelu Lukaku – Inter lost the title to city rivals Milan.

Lukaku is back to rekindle the partnership with Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine was due to leave Italian football with Chelsea and Tottenham hovering but the latest turn of events might have given him a new perspective.

Lukaku is back, and Martinez will stay.

Inter Milan fought to the final day of last season to retain their title, but they narrowly lost out to arch-rivals AC Milan. The Nerazzurri, who had dethroned the Bianconeri, had themselves to blame as they couldn’t finish what they had started due to poor finishing.

Inter Milan merely gift-wrapped the title for AC Milan. The loss of the Scudetto saw Lautaro Martinez considering his future at the club. Interested parties wanted to take the Argentine away from Italy.

Chelsea and Spurs aim to bolster their frontline. They hovered over the Nerazzurri, sending seductive glances at Martinez. While the Argentine was mulling his future, Lukaku returned from a failed sojourn at Stamford Bridge to rekindle the partnership that won Inter the Serie A. The return of Big Rom has ended the chances of Chelsea and Tottenham at signing the Argentine forward.

He’s not leaving – Martinez’ agent declares

Many will wonder why Martinez would want to stay at Inter while Chelsea and Tottenham are calling? The agent to the Argentine claims his client has no desire to leave the Guiseppe Meazza following the loan return of Romelu Lukaku.

Martinez and Lukaku were in impressive form under Antonio Conte as Inter Milan won the Scudetto. They had an almost telepathic relationship as they decimated all before them and romped to the title. Alejandro Carmano is confident that Martinez will ignore any interests from outside to rekindle the partnership with Lukaku.

Carmano told La Gazzetta Dello Sport of the link between the two players, claiming it is evidence that wearing the shirt isn’t for everyone. According to the agent, Lautaro is happy in Milan. He asked why Martinez would leave a club where he is loved and feels at the centre of things? For Carmano, Martinez is already at the top.

Despite the interest in Martinez, Chelsea are looking to finish a deal for Raheem Sterling and Raphinha.
