Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has signed a new six-year deal with the club, securing his future at the Catalan side until 2031. The agreement was finalized on Tuesday, with president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco present at the signing.
The 17-year-old had previously been under contract through the 2025–26 season, but his continued rise prompted the club to secure a longer-term commitment. The new contract follows a standout campaign in which Yamal played a vital role in helping Barcelona claim a domestic treble.
Breakthrough campaign under Hansi Flick
Yamal made a major impact during the season under new head coach Hansi Flick. The young forward contributed 18 goals and provided 25 assists in 55 matches, helping the team lift La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.
Having debuted for Barcelona in 2023 at just 15, Yamal’s development has been rapid. His performances throughout the campaign have earned widespread praise, with the club calling his rise to prominence a key sign of the strength behind their long-term vision.
Born in Mataró near Barcelona, he has become a central figure in the club’s attack, and his breakout year has been described by the club as one of the most impressive entrances onto the world football stage in recent memory.
Club milestones and International success
Yamal’s record-breaking career has already seen him become the youngest player to score in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. He also became the youngest player to reach 100 senior appearances for Barcelona.
So far, he has played 115 games for the club, scoring 25 goals. In addition to his achievements at the club level, Yamal has earned 19 appearances for Spain. He was part of the national squad that triumphed at Euro 2024, where Spain defeated England 2–1 in the final held in Berlin.
The winger has drawn comparisons to former club icon Lionel Messi, having also emerged from La Masia, the club’s youth academy. In recent weeks, Barcelona has also renewed the contracts of manager Hansi Flick and Brazilian forward Raphinha.
