Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has formally expressed his desire to leave the Serie A leaders, according to manager Antonio Conte. The 23-year-old, who has drawn interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, and Chelsea, played a pivotal role in Napoli’s Serie A triumph during the 2022-23 season.
“Kvaratskhelia informed me of his decision to depart,” Conte revealed. “He was upfront about his intention to leave immediately. There was a plan to renew his contract, but I couldn’t convince everyone to continue together. It’s not my place to keep a player who doesn’t wish to stay.”
A Star Player and Fan Favorite
Nicknamed “Kvaradona” by fans in homage to club legend Diego Maradona, Kvaratskhelia has been instrumental in Napoli’s recent success. The Georgian international joined the team at just 21 years old from Dinamo Batumi for £9 million and has since become a key figure in their attack, recording 54 goals and assists across 107 matches.
His contributions have been notable this season as well, with five goals and three assists in Serie A. Kvaratskhelia was also a part of Georgia’s historic run to the last 16 at Euro 2024, further cementing his reputation as a rising star in European football.
Napoli’s Surge Back to the Top
After a disappointing 2023-24 campaign that saw them finish 10th, Napoli has bounced back impressively, currently leading Serie A with 44 points from 19 games. Despite the team’s strong performance, Kvaratskhelia’s departure could pose a significant challenge as the club looks to maintain its momentum.
Conte’s remarks suggest an amicable yet inevitable parting: “I’ll step back and respect his decision. The team must move forward with players fully committed to our goals.”
