“Klopp stays” – Liverpool boss’ agents speaks on links away from Anfield

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp will not consider an exit from the club until 2026, when his current deal expires, says the manager’s agent Marc Kosicke.

Klopp is in his eighth year as Liverpool boss, one more than he has ever stayed at any club since he took up management over two decades ago. The 56-year-old has fallen in love with the city, its people, the club and its fans and has constantly reiterated his commitment to putting smiles on their faces with his coaching.

However, this has not stopped the media from linking him with an exit, especially after he reached his now-customary seven year managerial limit. Many believed that he would replace former Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick as the German national team manager when his time was up.

Those rumours and links became even more widespread following Flick’s sack during the September 2023 international break. Germany could not register a win against Japan, the same team that knocked them out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and Flick was out of the door immediately after the final whistle.

Klopp has now been touted as the next manager which means that he could leave Anfield soon. Kosicke has now come out to dispel those rumours, even though his client has expressed a desire to coach his nation in the past.

Klopp admitted in a recent interview with Sky Germany: “The job of national coach is and would be a great honour – there’s no question about that.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager then went on to indicate that Liverpool comes first for him at the moment, in order to fully answer the question.

“The problem that stands in the way of the whole thing is my loyalty,” he continued. “I can’t just leave Liverpool now and say I’ll take over Germany for a short time. That doesn’t work and the request isn’t even there.

“If I’m supposed to do that at some point, then I have to be available and I’m not currently.

“I have a responsibility towards the club. Basically, it’s an interesting job. But I don’t know yet whether I’ll do something completely different after I leave Liverpool.

“I want to keep my options open.”

Kosicke echoed Klopp’s words while speaking to a German news outlet on Wednesday.

“Jurgen has a long-term contract with Liverpool and is not available for the national coaching position,” the agent simply said to the journalist who asked him about Klopp moving to the national team.
