Klopp revels in not losing 1000th game in charge of Liverpool, aims dig at Wenger

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was relieved not to have lost his 1000th game to Chelsea. The Reds manager took a subtle dig at Wenger after his side played out a dour 0-0 draw with Chelsea.

Liverpool have looked rudderless for a while, thanks to injuries and a severe loss of form. The Anfield side jumped to eighth place on the log after managing a 0-0 draw against Chelsea. They could drop back to ninth place if Brentford can secure at least a point at Leeds United on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool were title contenders at the beginning of the season, but the Anfield side have derailed. The Reds will be content if they miraculously make it into the top four. Liverpool are ten points away from the top four and no longer in the title-winning conversations.

Klopp hopes for a turnaround in their fortunes, but things are not improving, with the results remaining far from the desired. On Saturday, Liverpool took on Chelsea at Anfield in the 1000th game for Klopp in charge of the Reds. The result was a dour 0-0 draw that allowed Klopp to aim a jibe at Arsene Wenger.

Klopp thankful for not losing his 1000th game

Jurgen Klopp marched his Liverpool side out for his 1000th game on Saturday afternoon in a Premier League tie against Chelsea. No one knew what to expect following the poor form of the two sides. Like Liverpool, Chelsea is in a rough patch, with Graham Potter managing just two wins in his last ten games with the Blues.

It was a dour game devoid of the thrills and excitement that usually accompany games of this magnitude. The only take-home from the tie was the desire not to lose by both sides. It was no surprise the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Klopp seemed the most satisfied of the two managers. Klopp said he was happy the team did not lose.

In the post-match interview, Klopp took a sly dig at former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. He said he was happy that he didn’t suffer defeat in his 1000th game, referring to Arsene Wenger, who lost his 1000th game. Ironically, he lost 6-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Samuel Eto’o, Andre Schurrle, Eden Hazard, Oscar and Mohamed Salah all got on the score sheet.

Celebrating a draw in desperate times

While Liverpool are looking for wins to help its course in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp has laid more importance on not losing his 1000th game. The Reds run the risk of missing out on European football next season, but at the moment, it does not matter to the German tactician.

Klopp said he was happy his team did not lose as Liverpool shared the spoils with Chelsea. The result does not help their cause much, as they remain far from European spots. The 55-year-old German was elated at the result as he pointed to Wenger’s 1000th game. He continued that his happiness stemmed from the messages he got before the game. He claimed not all of them were nice.

Klopp said he was happy with the performance of his wards against Chelsea. He said it was an improvement on their past performances.
