Karim Adeyemi out for three weeks after tearing muscle, Borussia Dortmund confirm

Borussia Dortmund have announced that Karim Adeyemi will be out for three weeks after picking up an injury in their win over Hertha Berlin last weekend.

The in-form German striker has become a social media sensation in the past week thanks to his comments about the African meal, fufu, being behind his incredible form. That form saw him put Chelsea to the sword in the UEFA Champions League – after which he made the comments about fufu – and score against Hertha Berlin on Sunday, his fourth goal in as many appearances in that time.

Unfortunately, he had to be stretchered off after tearing a muscle fibre while his team were on top of the game, leading to worry about his participation in future games.

Taking to Twitter, Borussia Dortmund stated: “Karim Adeyemi tore a muscle fiber during Sunday’s game against Hertha Berlin. He will not be available for about three weeks. Get well soon.”

The three-week window will see Adeyemi miss the return leg of the Champions League tie at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, whose struggles make them easy pickings at the moment. The Blues will be happy they do not have to deal with the tricky forward in March when the yellow and black team rolls around.

Meanwhile, for the return leg, Graham Potter will be with the talents of fullbacks Reece James and Ben Chilwell, who missed the first leg thanks to injury.

He could also have N’Golo Kante back in the team as the midfielder is scheduled to officially return to training at the beginning of March. Adeyemi’s absence for the Germans will be a big and bitter blow with all of these reinforcements coming in for the second leg of the tie.

Dortmund will also be without Adeyemi for the clash against their bitter rivals Schalke 04 on March 11. While it is unlikely they will miss him, his presence could have made things a lot easier for them in that game.

Adeyemi has been a key cog in their machine this season before and after the 2022 FIFA World Cup break. He has been especially amazing for the team since returning following Germany’s terrible World Cup outing.

They are now level on points with Bayern Munich, who have suffered a reverse fate to Dortmund post World Cup.

With Adeyemi out for three weeks, it remains to be seen how the German champions can capitalize on a big gap in Dortmund’s structure.
