Kane pleased with England’s performance after draw with Germany

England captain Harry Kane was quick to hail his side’s resilience after the Three Lions came from behind to earn a 3-3 draw with Germany in their final game before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Kane and his teammates came into that Monday fixture after a 1-0 defeat to Italy, a result that saw the Three Lions relegated from League A in the UEFA Nations League.

With the World Cup now less than two months away, Kane was impressed with his side’s performance in their final match ahead of the global showpiece in November.

Kane pleased with England’s showing against Germany

Speaking after his side’s 3-3 draw with Germany, Kane said: “We’ve all been under pressure a little bit with the recent results and we came out with a point to prove,” said Kane, whose penalty put England 3-2 up, after fighting back from being 2-0 down in the second half.”

“We have lessons to learn and things to improve but we’ve scored three goals and this will put us in a positive mood going into the World Cup.”

“We are playing Germany at Wembley, that’s always a big game regardless of the competition. It’s a shame we couldn’t go on and get the win but I’m proud of the boys.”

With no international games in October during this season, the players will now report back to their clubs and will next meet up in less than one week before England’s opening World Cup game with Iran in Qatar.

And after playing a key role as England reached the EURO 2020 Final last summer, Kane knows what it takes to succeed in major tournaments.

“We’ll have to be ready come the tournament,” added the Spurs striker.

“Major tournament football is completely different to anything else we play as England players. Pressure is high, concentration needs to be high at all times. I think we respond well to that, we have upped our game in the last two tournaments and picked up as we’ve gone along.

“We’ll dust ourselves down, we know we have to improve and there’s not much time before that first game. We have to go back to our clubs, stay fit and strong and be ready to come back in November.”

England’s poor form continues

Despite playing out to a 3-3 draw with Germany, it does mean that England are without a win in their last six competitive games. However, it did see them end their barren run of over 400 minutes of football action without a goal and they did score a flurry of goals in quick succession as well.

Regardless of their poor form, the Three Lions will still be seen as one of the ‘favourites’ for the World Cup in Qatar and only time will tell what they will achieve in the competition.
