Julian Nagelsmann is reportedly not going to return to any dugout this season following his sack by Bayern Munich.
The 35-year-old lost his job as the head coach of German giants Bayern Munich during the international break and has been replaced by former Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund manager, Thomas Tuchel. Player dissatisfaction and strained relationships with the upper management have been cited as reasons for the former RB Leipzig manager’s exit from the German Bundesliga champions.
He will remain on their payroll until his contract runs out, however, but he is now free to take up the manager role at another club. That next job will have to wait until next season at least, according to reports.
Nagelsmann is said to be on the radar of Chelsea, who are growing increasingly dissatisfied with Graham Potter. The Englishman’s job at Stamford Bridge was thrown into further jeopardy after he watched his side lose by a 2- 0 scoreline at home to Aston Villa on Saturday.
It was their 10th loss of the season and has condemned them to a place in the bottom half of the table, a situation that they have not been in for more than a decade.
Chelsea and Potter were booed off the pitch and afterwards, the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager faced criticism for his team selection against Unai Emery’s visiting side. Should the Chelsea administration decide to sack Potter in the wake of that loss, Nagelsmann is their reported prime target to fill the role.
Sky Germany made these claims while also debunking the reports that the 35-year-old German tactician is not an option for Tottenham Hotspur, who are also without a manager following their sacking of Antonio Conte last week during the international break.
However, Nagelsmann has chosen to sit out the rest of the season and possibly, the year, so that he can make the best choice for his young career and family.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich is facing backlash and criticism for his sacking from Former Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Lothar Matthaus, even with his replacement Tuchel getting off to a winning start in Der Klassiker against Dortmund, a side which he used to manage.
Matthaus accused Bayern’s CEO, Oliver Kahn, of failing to speak with Nagelsmann before taking the decision and condemned the way the manager found out about his dismissal.
Kahn, on the other hand, is adamant that he intended to have a face-to-face with Nagelsmann but the manager was away on holiday with his family. The Germany legend then added the time he got back, the appointment of Tuchel was already wrapped and it was too late.
