Jovic strikes twice as AC Milan defeat Inter in Coppa Italia semi-final

AC Milan secured their place in the Coppa Italia final after a 3-0 victory over city rivals Inter at San Siro. The result followed a 1-1 draw in the first leg, giving Milan a comfortable win on aggregate. Luka Jovic opened the scoring nine minutes before the break, heading home from a well-placed cross.

The Serbian forward, who previously played for Real Madrid, doubled his tally shortly after the restart. He found the net with a quick flick from close range following a corner, putting Milan firmly in control.

Late goal confirms dominant performance

Inter nearly reduced the deficit when Stefan de Vrij forced a strong save from Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. However, Milan sealed the match late on when Tijjani Reijnders calmly finished to make it 3-0 on the night.

Jovic, who had not found the net before March, now has four goals in his past five appearances. His recent form has been a boost in a difficult campaign for Milan.

Trophy hopes remain alive for Milan

Despite sitting ninth in Serie A and being out of European competition, the win gives Milan a shot at silverware. A Coppa Italia triumph would offer a positive ending to an otherwise frustrating season.

The loss ended Inter’s hopes of a treble, though they remain top of the league and are still competing in the Champions League semi-finals.

In the other semi-final, Bologna lead Empoli 3-0 heading into the return leg, which will take place on Thursday.
