Jordan Henderson announces departure from Liverpool via emotional post

Jordan Henderson has confirmed his exit from Liverpool in a heart-warming post on social media.

The former Reds captain on his way to the Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq on a mega-money deal.

Henderson leaves the Reds with legendary status, having won the Premier League and Champions League during his 12-year stint with the Merseyside team.

The Englishman, who became Liverpool captain in 2015, is set to earn a whopping £700,000-per-week in the Middle East.

The deal will see Liverpool earn a £12million transfer fee, while Henderson will join former teammate and Reds legend Steven Gerrard who is now manager at Al-Ettifaq.

Henderson pens down emotional tribute to Liverpool fans

An emotional Henderson posted: “I’m not sure I have any words to sum up how I’m feeling right now.

“I’m in the dressing room for the last time. So as you can imagine, it’s very emotional, but I need to somehow try and explain what these last 12 years have meant for me and my family.

“I can still remember that June night back in 2011, clearly being dead excited, but then becoming even more nervous as the move from Sunderland became a reality.

“It was hard leaving there. I have to be honest. My hometown, my club. But when Liverpool come knocking, you don’t say no.

“Driving in through those old Melwood Gates. Meeting Damien [Comolli], the spinning feeling in my stomach, feeling a little shy meeting Sir Kenny [Dalglish], that all seems like yesterday when I see the footage back now – I’m just a kid, who would’ve ever imagined that night how the next 12 years would go?

Henderson continued: “I can’t lie, there have been hard times, really hard times, but when I look back at my career at Liverpool, it will always be the good times that I remember.

“Those good times again, where do I start? Being made the captain of Liverpool Football Club was one of the greatest honours of my life. From the day the armband was passed to me I did everything I could to behave like a Liverpool captain should.

Liverpool prepare for life after Henderson

Liverpool are already looking ahead to life without their captain, following the midfield additions of Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai this summer.

The Reds are still on the hunt for yet another midfielder and have already seen one bid for Southampton star Romeo Lavia rejected, with the club set to make an improved offer in the coming days.
