Joan Laporta rules Barcelona out of big-money signing amid Bernardo Silva rumours

Speculations are rife over a potential bid for Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva. Barcelona are interested in signing the Portugal international, but will Laporta stump up the cash?

Joan Laporta has managed the finances of Barcelona well. The Barcelona president met a chaotic financial outlook, with the club in a deep mess. He has skillfully manoeuvred the club out of a tight corner, but it is not yet Uhuru. The Catalan giants still have some way to go, and Laporta is careful not to heap more burden on the club.

It has been an arduous task getting Barcelona into a position where they can compete with Real Madrid, but Laporta has pulled it off with some massive signings. The club sits atop the La Liga Santander table, but Laporta is not resting on his oars. He wants to ensure Los Blaugrana wins trophies this season and beyond.

There have been rumours around Barcelona and players pundits expect will join the club. With so many links, one sticks out like a sore thumb. The news has refused to go. Bernardo Silva has been a target for Barcelona, with Laporta making their stand known. According to Laporta, Barcelona will not spend humongous amounts to sign any player.

Laporta rules out big-money transfers

Perhaps the era of big-money transfers at Barcelona is over. The time when players like Neymar, Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele arrived at the club for massive amounts may have become tales of the past. Barcelona made shrewd deals this past summer for top-class players and wants to continue to tow that path.

Joan Laporta has said the club would not spend a massive transfer fee to sign unsettled Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva. Despite their interest in the Portugal international, Laporta has refused the temptation of shelling out plenty of money for the Portuguese.

According to 90min, Barcelona are interested in bringing Silva to the Nou Camp in 2023. They made him their top target and are looking for ways to lower his price tag. Despite the well-publicized interest in the Portuguese midfielder, any approach for the player will depend on the financial viability of the deal.

Silva remains vital to Man City

Silva is a vital cog for Man City and s one of their most important players since his £43.5m transfer from Monaco in 2017.

Silva has won several trophies at the Etihad. They include four Premier League titles and five domestic cups in five and a half seasons. The Portugal midfielder was also named the player of the year for 2018/19 for Man City and has twice been in the PFA Premier League team of the year, with the latest coming last season.

Silva is dissatisfied with life at the Etihad and is keen to find a new stomping ground. According to Silva, he is 28 and will be 29 in the summer, with two more years on his man City contract. He said his goal is to find another project elsewhere if something good comes up.
