Jamie Vardy begins new chapter at Cremonese

Former Leicester forward Jamie Vardy has started a new stage of his career after joining Italian club Cremonese. The 38-year-old ended a 13-year stay at Leicester this summer, during which he struck 200 goals across 500 games.

Vardy, who netted 24 times in their historic 2015-16 Premier League triumph, moved to the newly promoted Serie A team on a free deal earlier this month. He could feature for the northern side for the first time on Monday when they face Verona.

Age not a barrier for Vardy

When questioned about whether he and other experienced players like Kevin De Bruyne and Luka Modric remain driven to succeed at the top level, Vardy responded defiantly.

“You must be one of the doubters. You’re one that I’ll have to prove wrong,” he said.

“For me age is just a number. As long as my legs are doing exactly what they used to and still feel as fresh as they do then I will carry on. At the moment there are no signs of them slowing down so I’ll keep going and I will be giving my all for this club.”

He also mentioned he intends to learn Italian but added that for now it is not a problem because “football has its own language, with the ball.”

Sights set on survival in Serie A

Cremonese have started their season strongly, earning a surprise 2-1 win over AC Milan before following it up with a 3-2 victory against Sassuolo.

Vardy said the main focus is keeping the club in the top division.

“It was the same at Leicester,” he recalled. “It was never any, ‘we are going to go for this’, it was always, ‘we need to stay in the league’. That’s the main thing. So all you do, you go out, you take each game one-by-one, give your all, what will be will be.”
