Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and all other clubs that have been linked to Jamal Musiala in the past will be rethinking their transfer strategy now that the player is set to commit long-term to Bayern Munich.
This is according to Sky Germany, who reported on Monday that the former England youth international is set to sign with the German giants until 2029.
Musiala left Chelsea in 2019 at 16 years old after eight years undergoing development at Cobham to join Bayern Munich. In months, he was already playing matches for the Bayern Munich first team, as then-manager Hansi Flick identified his talents as too good for just the club’s youth sides. In four years, the Stuttgart-born and England trained youngster has made 177 appearances for Bayern in all competitions, registering 52 goals and 35 assists. This season alone, he has nine goals and four assists in 14 games, as he heads towards his most prolific season so far.
Musiala is viewed as a direct replacement for the veteran Thomas Müller, who is entering the final stages of his football career. Now that he is set to sign until 2029, the club have effectively locked down the position where the 2014 FIFA World Cup winner made his own and reinvented in the past decade and a half of football.
Musiala was in the England national team set up, playing for the Three Lions at all levels (under-15, 16, 17 and 21) until 2021 when he made the switch from England to Germany, the country of his birth. Former Germany national team manager Joachim Löw, spoke about how he was able to convince the young superstar to join up with the 2014 FIFA World Cup winners.
Löw said that he had promised the then 18-year-old that he would play for Germany in the 2020 Euros (held in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic).
“It was the only time in my time as national coach that I made a promise to a player,” 64-year-old Low explained during a recent appearance on SWR Sport.
Musiala has now scored seven goals for Germany and is one half of one of the most exciting national team attacking partnerships with Florian Wirtz, who also made his national team debut around the same time with the Bayern Munich attacker.
Löw praised both after their performance in Germany’s latest international outing. “Both are already world class at their young age,” said the World Cup-winning coach.
“They are incredibly creative, strong in one-on-one situations, they are both dangerous in front of goal and have come an incredible way in the last one or two years.
“It is impossible to imagine the team without them because they are already shaping the game and are so unpredictable for the opponents going forward.”
