England international Jack Grealish believes that Manchester City are about to go on a winning run after Thier famous 3 – 1 win over Arsenal at the Emirates on Wednesday.
The top of the table clash saw City go top of the league on goal difference after they dispatched Arsenal in front of their travelling support. Goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Grealish, and Erling Haaland cancelled out Bukayo Saka’s penalty, which he converted after a suspicious call.
That was Arsenal’s 11th straight defeat at City’s hands, including matches when Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was still City manager Pep Guardiola’s assistant.
Things have started to look up for the Cityzens, who are now on the cusp of a Premier League title three-peat, the first since Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United. For Arsenal, it is looking bleak because they still have Manchester City ahead of them. However, Guardiola will be wary because the Gunners have a game in hand which could see them easily overtake his team to reclaim top spot.
This does not seem to worry Jack Grealish, scorer of the second goal against Arsenal on Wednesday night, as he believes that City are on the cusp of a winning run that will see them retain their title.
“It was the perfect night: for me getting a goal and the team winning the game,” the former Aston Villa captain began. “I don’t think we played to our best and Arsenal were the better team if I’m honest, but that’s what good teams do: come to places like this when they’re not at their best and get three points.
“We have to try different ways of playing against good teams like this and that’s what we did.
“It’s a brilliant dressing room to be in. Everyone’s very happy as you can imagine. We’re not getting too ahead of ourselves, but wins like that you have to celebrate, and we certainly did.
“People know in the last few years City always go on some sort of run; we did it last year around Christmas time and we were hoping it was going to be after the World Cup. We dropped points in certain games but now we need to try and go on [a winning run] and I feel like it’s coming. Training is brilliant and in there [the dressing room] was unbelievable [at full-time].”
They have a chance to start that winning run against the slowly-improving Nottingham Forest on Saturday, before they travel to Germany to face Red Bull Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League.
