Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak is reportedly receptive to the idea of a summer transfer to Arsenal, according to a recent update. The Swedish international, currently enjoying a breakout season, has drawn significant attention due to his outstanding performances.
Isak has become a standout figure for Newcastle, spearheading their attack in a campaign where they are pushing for Champions League qualification. The 25-year-old has surpassed the 25-goal mark in all competitions, becoming the first player to do so at the club since Alan Shearer. Remarkably, he has also helped secure Newcastle’s first major domestic trophy in nearly seven decades.
Isak netted the decisive second goal in a 2-1 victory over Liverpool that clinched a historic win for Newcastle — the club’s first major domestic title since 1955. This success has only boosted his profile, attracting interest from several top clubs beyond the Northeast.
Arsenal’s striker hunt and Isak’s price tag
While Arsenal’s admiration for Isak isn’t new, it has now been claimed by BBC Sport that the player is “open” to making the move to London. Despite his willingness, a deal remains uncertain. The main obstacle appears to be Newcastle’s valuation of their top scorer, reportedly set at a staggering £150 million — a figure that could potentially break records.
Competition for Isak’s services is said to be intense, with recently crowned league champions Liverpool also linked. However, the Merseyside club is believed to hold a pessimistic outlook regarding their ability to secure the striker’s signature.
Arsenal’s other striker options
The Gunners are in clear need of a new center forward, and while Isak fits the profile, alternative targets are being seriously considered. RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres are both under strong consideration.
Incoming sporting director Andrea Berta is reportedly in favor of Gyokeres, though some at Arsenal have voiced doubts about whether his prolific form in the Portuguese league would translate to England’s top flight. Gyokeres’ domestic goal tally stands at a staggering 38 for the season.
Sesko, meanwhile, is seen as a player for the future. The 21-year-old Slovenian has managed 13 goals in the Bundesliga this campaign – two fewer than Omar Marmoush, who made a January switch from Eintracht Frankfurt to Manchester City.
