Rasmus Højlund has made it clear that he plans to stay at Manchester United, brushing aside rumors linking him with a move away this summer. The 22-year-old striker addressed recent speculation during international duty, reaffirming his loyalty to the club. “I have a contract until 2030, so I expect to play for Manchester United,” he told Danish outlet Bold.
The Danish international emphasized his focus on the future with United and stated that he avoids getting caught up in rumors, whether they are positive or negative. He added that he is looking forward to his summer break before returning fully committed to the club’s ongoing plans.
Disappointing season raises questions
Højlund’s future has come under scrutiny following a challenging year in the Premier League. He netted only four goals in England’s top division and endured a lengthy scoring drought that lasted 21 matches. The lack of productivity has led to doubts over his role in Erik ten Hag’s plans moving forward.
Once regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young strikers, the forward’s reputation has taken a hit. His struggles at Old Trafford have caused some to question the club’s decision to pay up to £72 million for his services after a standout campaign with Atalanta in Serie A.
Interest from Italy, pressure at home
Despite his dip in form, Højlund has not gone unnoticed in Italy. Inter, last season’s Champions League runners-up, are reportedly interested in bringing him back to Serie A. There are suggestions that Manchester United may be willing to let him go for significantly less than they originally paid.
Even if he stays, the competition is intensifying. United have brought in Brazilian attacker Matheus Cunha and are reportedly nearing a deal for Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford. Both new arrivals are capable of leading the line or playing out wide, adding pressure on Højlund, who may find himself fighting for minutes next season.
