Havertz can shine across several positions, says Nagelsmann

German head coach Julian Nagelsmann has high praises for Kai Havertz claiming the Arsenal star can be “world class in many positions”.

Despite being used behind striker Niclas Fullkrug, versatile Havertz scored from the spot in Germany’s 5-0 Nations League victory over Hungary.

After scoring twice in Arsenal’s opening three games of the season, the 25-year-old has established himself as Mikel Arteta’s preferred frontman at the club level.

Furthermore, Nagelsmann expressed his admiration for Havertz’s improvements, stating that “Kai has made a big leap forward in the last two years.”

Havertz can shine  across several positions, says Nagelsmann

“He has the potential to be world class in many positions.”

“He runs an incredible amount and has become very clever. He sometimes lacks a bit of finishing luck.”

“The co-captaincy is good for him. He is a smart person, very reflective. He is very modest. I hope he continues to believe in himself.”

Nagelsmann took over as Germany’s coach in September of last year, and since then, Havertz has developed into a vital player of his team.

Surprisingly, in November’s friendly against Turkey and Austria, Nagelsmann deployed the former Chelsea player in a strange left wing-back position.

During the 2024 European Championship held in Germany, he resumed his customary role as a striker. However, Germany lost to eventual winners Spain in the quarterfinals.

Havertz left Chelsea in June 2023 for a £65 million transfer to Arsenal, where he went on to assume a key position in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

And he ended up netting 14 goals in 51 appearances for the Gunners last season, earning admiration from Arteta, following a sluggish start to his Arsenal career.

“He’s certainly having a huge impact on the team,” the Spaniard said back in April.”

“I think his overall performances have been really good and now his numbers in terms of goal contributions, are really, really high.”

Havertz looking to do even better at Arsenal

Havertz will now be looking to improve on his recent goalscoring record and do even better than he did last season. Right after the international break, Arsenal have two big fixtures in the form of Tottenham and Manchester City and Havertz will be eager to play a big role in those crucial matchups.
