Hattrick hero Jarrod Bowen ready for Three Lions, says David Moyes

David Moyes has showered praises on England international Jarrod Bowen after his hattrick and man-of-the-match performance helped the Hammers win a Premier League game for the first time since December.

Moyes has come under criticism in the last two months for his team’s undefined style of play which has cost them so many points. West Ham United have now gone from being top six contenders to fighting for a top 10 finish.

Since their back-to-back wins over Manchester United and Arsenal in December 2023, they have not won a single league game in six attempts (3L, 3D). As a result, fans began to turn against the 60-year-old with some sections even calling for his sack.

Moyes is now back to winning ways with West Ham, thanks to Bowen. The 27-year-old scored a hattrick at the London Stadium in their London derby match with Brentford on Monday night. The result saw West Ham move into eighth place, one point ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers and two ahead of Newcastle United, who both lost their weekend games and could have kept the hammers in 10th.

Moyes was happy to have finally bagged another three points for the club, but most importantly, he was happy that Bowen had proved his doubters wrong.

The five-cap England international has been one of West Ham’s best players since joining them from Hull City in 2020. He has not made an England squad in the past three international breaks, making many believe that his international career is over.

With his latest performance, Moyes is now convinced that the player he is so proud of can finally step into the international scene again. “I think his performances recently have gone a wee bit unnoticed because we’ve not played that well”, Moyes said in his post match comments.

“Jarrod’s actually been taking the fight to them in all the games and it’s not really fallen for him and it’s not quite happened. Tonight it did.”

“Generally, I think the goals will hopefully get him back in Gareth’s thinking, but I’m not saying he’s out of Gareth’s thinking because I think the last squad he was probably in and around it.”

The former Everton manager also spoke about the recent wave of criticism he has faced. He talked them down, stating that every club has to face challenging periods in their season.

His mind will now be focused on the Hammers’ next outing, which is against Everton next weekend in the Premier League.
