Reports suggest that Harry Kane is, once again, looking for a way out of Tottenham Hotspur and is hoping that Manchester United can look into reigniting their transfer negotiations with the North London side.
Kane has been with Spurs since childhood but after loan spells in the lower divisions of English football, has played with the Spurs’ first team since 2015. In that time, he has made it into the exclusive Premier League 200 club, a list of only two other players to have scored 200 goals or more in English football’s top flight.
In that time as well, he has become Spurs’ record goalscorer and also obliterated Wayne Rooney’s goal-scoring record for the Three Lions of England, who he has captained for almost six years. His trophy cabinet, however, remains empty, which is a betrayal of his talent and work ethic.
Spurs are aware of the down sides to losing their talisman striker and have fought tooth and nail to stop him from leaving. They have made him the highest paid Premier League player at some point and have broken their wage structure for him on several others.
They have also constantly made negotiations hard for other teams who have shown interest in him.
The biggest one is that of Manchester City’s which led them to bagging Erling Haaland who won them the treble in the 2022/23 season.
Manchester United have been trying in the past few months but Spurs are making negotiations difficult. The Daniel Levy-led administration of the club is insisting on £100 million and above for Kane, who turns 30 in a month and has one season left on his contract.
Man United have abandoned the negotiations and turned their attention to Atalanta BC striker Rasmus Hojlund, 20. The Italian Serie A club values the young Danish striker for £80 million because his youth makes him a much more reasonable investment of big funds than Kane, who is nearing the twilight of his career.
Kane is now hoping that Man United can pick off the negotiations where they dropped it with his sights now firmly set on leaving Tottenham. It is believed that the Old Trafford outfit could return to the negotiation table if Spurs lower their bid to around £80 million.
Kane also has options to leave the Premier League as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all hold an interest in the player and have initiated contact with necessary figures in a possible deal. They all have the same disposition as United, however.
The Premier League pull could also see them miss out on signing the striker if Spurs ever lower their demands in the coming weeks. Kane is about two seasons worth of goals away from becoming the Premier League’s top goalscorer and many sources believe this fact will hold sway over his decision.
It remains to be seen what his people can do about Spurs’ demand in order to bring United and other interested clubs back to the negotiation table.
