Harry Kane overtakes Jimmy Greaves to claim scoring record at Tottenham

Harry Kane scored the only goal as Tottenham beat Manchester City in a Premier League game on Sunday. The England international thus becomes the all-time top scorer at Tottenham.

The chase for the Premier League title continues in earnest. The omens favour north London side Arsenal as the fates continue to conspire to deny Manchester City the trophy.

The Citizens have continued to drop points to give Arsenal the advantage. Many factors seem to be working against the defending champions.

Another north London side Tottenham has different priorities. They are chasing a top-four finish to secure a place in next season’s Champions League. The race has been far from smooth, as they currently sit outside the top four. The last thing Spurs would do is allow Arsenal to win the league, but their current interests work at cross purpose with their rivalry with the Gunners.

On Sunday afternoon, Tottenham took on Manchester City in a game that held much importance for the team on different levels. They needed a win to keep up the chase for a top-four place, and Harry Kane needed a goal to beat Jimmy Greaves Tottenham record.

They got both as Harry Kane scored the only goal in a vital victory over Manchester City.

Harry Kane elated after beating Jimmy Greaves’ Tottenham scoring record

A loss for Tottenham against Manchester City would have left them six points behind Manchester United and four points behind Newcastle United as they continue the chase for a top-four finish. It was an afternoon where things fell into place for them as they picked up all three points.

It was a fantastic afternoon for Spurs and England international Harry Kane. It has become a habit for Kane to score against Manchester City. On Sunday afternoon, he was on target again. It was a tight affair, but Spurs had the upper hand, with Kane scoring the only goal that brought them within touching distance of third and fourth place Man United and Newcastle.

With the goal, Kane overtook Jimmy Greaves as Tottenham’s all-time top scorer. An elated Kane was over the moon, describing it as a magical moment. The level of the game and its importance made the record-breaking goal even more special.

Kane said he could not put it into words, but it was a magical moment, and he was excited about the win.

What Harry Kane thinks of the feat

After the match, Kane spoke with Sky Sports, saying the team worked hard to keep a clean sheet. Kane said it was an honour to perform in front of the fans. He added there was a lot of talk about it in recent weeks, and to do it in such a big game is even more impressive.

According to Kane, it wasn’t even in his wildest dreams when he first started playing regularly for Spurs that he’d score 200 Premier League goals, and he still has a few years left, so hopefully, there will be more.

Kane described Greaves as a complete hero and one of the best strikers to play the game. He said he was proud to be in the same conversation with him and described it as extraordinary.

Kane is now on 200 Premier League goals, only behind Wayne Rooney on 208.
