England Three Lions captain, Harry Kane, is reportedly eyeing a sensational return to the English top flight in the coming seasons.
Kane, who debuted with Tottenham Hotspur and spent nine years leading all their charges while breaking existing goalscoring records for the club and in the league, has been at Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga for the past two years. There, he is closer than ever to winning the laurels that his talent deserves, which many claim will be the defining factor in his legacy as a footballer.
While at Bayern, he has delivered at an even more impressive rate, scoring 76 goals and providing 23 assists in 82 appearances. The 31-year-old striker has until 2027 to spend with the German giants depending on their decision to renew or stick with him.
However, he is believed to be interested in the Liverpool project as they have shown a greater chance of winning laurels — the kind he fought for as a Tottenham Hotspur player between 2010 and 2023.
Premier League Record in Sight
A motivation to return to the Premier League is also the potential of him usurping Alan Shearer to become its record goalscorer. Kane scored 280 goals for Spurs across all competitions, with 213 of them being Premier League goals. Shearer is ahead with 260, which means Kane has to score 47 more goals to catch up to the Newcastle United legend.
Reports in Germany suggest that upon completion of Kane’s current and second season, a clause that allows him or any interested party to negotiate his exit for nothing less than £54 million from January 2026 will be activated. This means that Liverpool, who is reportedly Kane’s preferred choice, or Manchester United, who have maintained their interest in the player for three years now, will have to submit a bid of that amount or more if they cannot wait to get him for free in 2027.
Liverpool do want to overhaul their attack, which means that adding someone like Kane will be a big deal for them. However, his age and wages could hamper the operation as this is the same factor involved in the renewal of Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk’s contracts at the club. As it stands, both players will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season for free and replacing them with a player that could also leave in less than five years does not seem feasible.
They could sign him, however, if the price is right.
