Haise Addresses Depay Rumors Amid Nice’s Striker Shortage

OGC Nice is facing a significant injury problem in their attacking options, with several key players sidelined early in the season. As a result, the club has been connected with various strikers, including free agents such as Memphis Depay. Coach Franck Haise, however, has cast doubt on the likelihood of some of these signings coming to fruition.

Injury Woes for Nice

Terem Moffi, one of Nice’s key forwards, sustained a severe ACL injury during pre-season, ruling him out for the bulk of the Ligue 1 campaign. In addition to Moffi’s setback, Jérémie Boga and Sofiane Diop have also yet to feature in the current season due to ongoing injury issues. While Diop’s return remains uncertain, Boga appears to be on the cusp of making a comeback to the squad.

However, Nice’s injury crisis deepened ahead of their second match of the season against Toulouse FC. Forward Gaëtan Laborde suffered a metatarsal fracture during training, and the injury is expected to sideline the former Stade Rennais player for two to three months, leaving the club desperately searching for reinforcements up front.

Striker Search Underway

With the injuries piling up, Nice has been linked to several potential signings to bolster their attack. Among the names mentioned are free agents Memphis Depay, Yusuf Yazici, and Wissam Ben Yedder. Additionally, Everton’s Neal Maupay has also emerged as a possible target. However, the financial feasibility of deals for players like Maupay and Ben Yedder is in doubt.

Depay, a high-profile option, has been training nearby in Monaco following the expiration of his contract with Atletico Madrid. Despite his proximity, it appears that a move to Nice is unlikely.

Haise Responds to Depay Rumors

In an interview with DAZN France, Franck Haise addressed rumors linking the club with a move for Depay. When asked about a Dutch player training in the Monaco area, Haise was quick to identify the player in question. “Yes, I’m well aware of who you’re referring to,” Haise said. However, he emphasized that while Nice is looking at various options, certain transfers are simply out of reach. “There are things we can do, and others that we cannot,” he added, suggesting that the acquisition of Depay might be beyond the club’s current capabilities.

For now, Nice’s search for a solution to their injury-ridden attack continues, with the club weighing their options carefully in the transfer market.
