Bukayo Saka was all smiles after Arsenal’s win over Manchester United on Sunday and described his goal in the game as the best of his career as a first team player for the club.
The young Englishman has once again taken centre stage for Arsenal as they look to do the impossible this season. The club have lost only one game all season in the Premier League, and in the return leg of that game, they fought to a 3 – 2 win thanks to goals from Eddie Nketiah and Saka.
He put in a man of the match performance for the side, giving Manchester United’s defenders a tough time for the duration of the game. His goal was also one of the best goals of the night, almost eclipsing Marcus Rashford’s wonder strike that opened the scoring in the game.
Speaking about the game to Arsenal media, Saka expressed excitement at the win, the team’s mentality, and the goal he scored, calling it the best goal of his career since making his first team debut.
“I can’t put it into words,” he said. “We know how big this game is, the history between the two clubs, and also looking at the table, how big it would be if we won this. We managed to do it, so you could see from the celebrations how much it meant to everyone.
“I think today we showed we can play at another level. We can play when there’s pressure on us. I think it’s the earliest time this season we’ve gone behind and we fought back, and even until the end, we kept going until the last minute, and got the breakthrough with Eddie. I’m so happy for him.
“It’s my best goal for sure. I don’t think any other goal can argue with this one, and for what it meant as well. So yeah.”
Saka also spoke on the fans’ support, stating that it fuelled the team to a huge win. “It’s unbelievable, it’s a pleasure. Every game I come here I’m always looking forward to it, I’m always playing with a smile because I know even if we make a mistake, even if we go behind, the fans are going to push us on, like they did again today and create something special in the end. So I’m really happy to play here.”
Their next Premier League match is away to Everton at Goodison Park. But before then, they will have to travel to the Etihad to take on Manchester City for a chance at FA Cup number 15.
