Gakpo says Liverpool are confident in themselves this season

Cody Gakpo stood out in Liverpool’s intense clash at the Emirates, reflecting the renewed confidence and resilience that manager Arne Slot has brought to the team at Anfield.

Liverpool managed to come from behind twice in Sunday’s thrilling 2-2 draw against an injury-hit Arsenal at the Emirates, securing a valuable point. Gakpo, who has been competing with Luis Diaz for the left-wing position in Slot’s front three, emphasized that the team’s newfound resilience under pressure stems from the confidence and conviction instilled by their manager, Arne Slot.

Gakpo is confident in himself and in Liverpool

Gakpo said: “This result shows we are very resilient, we are fighting for each other. The game is not over until it is over. We kept believing in ourselves, and in the end, we fought hard for the point.”

“We can take a lot of confidence from it. Every season is different, and we knew we lost at Arsenal last season, but we are not in the same place now as we were back then.”

“We have a lot of confidence from this season alone, so we have to keep that, and show what we are good at, and get more points. If we have so much confidence as we have then even if we are behind, we still know the chances will come.”

“Does that confidence come from the manager? If you count everything together, from the manager, and the results we have had in the last games, we have enough confidence to act like we do now.”

Liverpool struggled in the first half at the Emirates, looking disorganized, but they tightened their grip in the second half. This control was an encouraging sign that Slot’s fast-paced, high-pressure style is taking hold.

The Dutch international added: “We are very good on the counter-attack. We are compact, we try to come out very fast and we create a lot of chances, so we are very dangerous.”

“It was a good point at Arsenal. To go there, against a good opponent, you want to win but in the end we have a lot of confidence in ourselves and the team. Until the game is over, it is not over. We fought hard and came back twice, so it is a good sign.”
