Firmino reiterates his intention to remain at Liverpool despite transfer links

Firmino insists he wants to remain at Anfield. The Brazilian striker sees his Liverpool contract expire in June.

It has been one of those seasons for Liverpool where things have refused to work according to the script. From injuries to loss of form, the Reds have struggled to replicate the style of past seasons and are currently ninth on the log. Confusion might be the best word to describe the situation at Anfield.

Many believe the departure of Sadio Mane is one of the problems the club is suffering. The Reds have not adequately filled the vacuum his absence leaves behind. The Senegalese striker, now at Bayern Munich, formed a magnificent partnership with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. The union may be on the verge of being further mutilated.

Amid the chaos at Liverpool, the club is in a quandary as to what the future portends for Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino. The striker who did not make the Brazil squad to the World Cup is unsettled at Liverpool and might be on his way out. However, Firmino intends to remain at Anfield for the foreseeable future.

Firmino set to remain at Liverpool

Firmino joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim in 2015 and proved a worthy addition to the club. At 31, the Brazilian is no longer a spring chicken and is staring retirement in the face. There have been dark clouds hovering around his Liverpool future. He is one part of a trident that has terrorized the Premier League but is on the last leg of his Liverpool contract.

With suggestions of a rebuild at Liverpool gaining ground, Firmino was tipped as one of the players to leave the club. The arrival of Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez has not helped his cause, yet the Brazilian striker intends to remain at Liverpool. Firmino has a contract that will expire in the summer and has reiterated he wants to stay at Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp denied wanting to move the player on, insisting he wants to keep Firmino at the club. Reports suggest that there have been discussions over a new contract, but there has been little progress. Firmino may likely make concessions to get a new contract.

Links to other clubs

With Liverpool prioritizing negotiations with Firmino over a new contract, the rumours have continued to hang in the air. Different reports suggest he could return to the Bundesliga, with Bayern Munich as a destination. Should that happen, he would reunite with his former strike partner at Liverpool – Sadio Mane.

There have also been reports of the Brazilian joining Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. Firmino has been quick to shoot down those reports. Klopp insists that except Firmino wants to leave the club, he would do everything possible to keep him at Anfield. Firmino said it is incredible playing high-level football with great players.

It has been a roller coaster ride for the former Hoffenheim striker, who is yet to play a game since the World Cup break. He has scored 107 goals and provided 78 assists in 348 appearances across all competitions for the Reds, winning seven trophies in the process.

Firmino claims every player wants to win the Premier League and Champions League. For the Brazilian, it is a massive legacy.

Klopp will still be without the Brazilian when the Reds take on the Blues in a Saturday afternoon Premier League tie as he is still nursing a calf injury.
