Everton sack Frank Lampard, consider Marcelo Bielsa

Frank Lampard has lost his job at Everton following several bad results by the team. The Toffees are struggling in the relegation zone, with the season just halfway.

There is the misconception every top player can make it as a manager. Football has a plethora of players, who were fantastic in their playing days, but could not make it in the dugout. There is plenty of proof that they are two different worlds with differing rules. Not every player can be Zinedine Zidane or Pep Guardiola.

Perhaps this is a lesson that club owners need to understand before hiring managers. A few names come to mind of successful footballers who failed to transition to top managers. Gary Neville, with a record of ten wins, seven draws and 11 losses while at Valencia and his comrade at Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, are two examples of players that failed as managers.

Everton have gone through a torrid time. After surviving the turmoils of the Premier League under Carlo Ancelotti, they ended up with Chelsea legend Frank Lampard. Under the former Chelsea midfielder, things have continued to deteriorate, with the club having no choice but to give him his marching orders.

Everton sack Frank Lampard

Lampard was a top midfielder. He remains Chelsea’s all-time goal scorer but is not at the level required to be a manager. He lost his job at Chelsea for failing to get them to play at a top level. Thomas Tuchel took over from him and led the Blues to a Champions League victory. Since leaving Chelsea, things have not gone to script for him.

Lampard joined Everton in January 2022. Despite helping the Toffees avoid relegation last term, he leaves the club earlier than expected. Everton are currently in 19th place on the log. They have been struggling this season, and the club can no longer stomach the pain and have decided to part ways with him.

Everton have confirmed the sacking of Frank Lampard. The news came on Monday with Everton languishing in the relegation zone. With no hope in sight, the club decided to make the decision they viewed as the best for the club. Lampard has shown that he is out of his depth.

Options for Everton

Following the sacking of Frank Lampard, the club started looking to the future. With no immediate replacement for the former Chelsea boss, Everton has lined up several names to take over from him. Among the managers tipped to fill the role are Sean Dyche, Marcelo Bielsa and Thomas Frank.

According to Sky Sports News chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol, former Burnley manager Sean Dyche is the favourite to land the job. The Everton hierarchy also admires the solid job Thomas Frank has done at Brentford. They will have issues convincing Thomas Frank to leave the Bees.

Joe Edwards, Paul Clement, Ashley Cole and Chris Jones have also left Goodison Park. Until the club appoint a new manager, Paul Tait and Leighton Baines will take training. However, the goalkeeping coach will remain with the club.

The dismissal of Lampard comes after Everton owner Farhad Moshiri attended his first match since October 2021 as the Toffees succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday.
