Everton Demands £80m from Manchester United for Jarrad Branthwaite

Manchester United have shown strong interest in signing young Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, with a potential transfer fee of at least £80 million being discussed. The Red Devils have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with the player’s representatives and are planning to negotiate with Everton once the transfer window opens on Friday. However, initial responses from Everton are expected to be unwelcoming.

Everton’s Stance on Branthwaite

Everton are keen on retaining the 21-year-old defender, who narrowly missed out on a spot in England’s European Championship squad, and are confident he will soon become a regular for the national team. The club views Branthwaite on par with top defenders like Harry Maguire, who cost United £80 million when he transferred from Leicester in 2019, and Josko Gvardiol, who joined Manchester City for €90 million (approximately £77 million) from RB Leipzig last summer.

Branthwaite has made a significant impact as a left-sided central defender for Everton, playing a crucial role in helping the team avoid relegation last season despite facing two points deductions. It remains uncertain whether Everton need to sell players before June 30 to meet the Premier League’s profit and sustainability requirements.

United’s Defensive Concerns

Manchester United are focusing on strengthening their central defence, following the departure of Raphael Varane after the FA Cup final. The club faced challenges last season with injuries to Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, and Victor Lindelof. Veteran defender Jonny Evans also struggled with injuries, though United are currently negotiating a new contract with the 36-year-old Northern Ireland international.

With Branthwaite’s potential and impressive performances, United see him as a valuable addition to their defensive lineup as they aim to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
