Eric Dier set for Tottenham exit

Tottenham Hotspur stalwart Eric Dier looks to be in the final few days of his time with the North London club.

Dier, who joined Spurs in 2014, is a rarity amongst England internationals. He was trained at the Sporting CP academy in Lisbon, Portugal, between 2003 and 2012, before making his first team debut for the Primeira Liga side in 2012.

He would go on to make 43 appearances across the B team and first team in the next two years that followed before returning to the country of his birth in 2015, when Tottenham Hotspur, under the management of Mauricio Pochettino, signed him.

He has gone on to spend nine years as a club, which spanned the whole of his 20s. At 29, he looks set to be on his way out of the club, thanks to the happenings of the last few weeks.

Ange Postecoglou has not paid much attention to the versatile defensive midfielder since the start of the Premier League season. Despite using him during pre-season and even having him wear the armband for the team when talks around Harry Kane’s Spurs’ future intensified, Dier has been dropped down the pecking order.

The 270-cap Spurs veteran has been missing from the club’s matchdays squad for the first three matches of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

In the heart of defence, which is a role he frequently plays in, ew signing Micky van de Ven, 2022 FIFA World Cup winner Cristian Romero and Davinson Sanchez, who was reportedly on his way out of the club, have now gone ahead of him in the pecking order.

In the middle of the park, he has Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg – who is also believed to be on his way out – ahead of him.

Dier was not even given a run in the team against Fulham in their second round loss to Fulham in the 2023/24 EFL Cup. That omission fuelled the exit rumours which have been flying around since Postecoglou took over at the club in June.

Germany’s two top teams, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, are the leading candidates for Dier’s signature, according to reports.

Tuchel and Bayern are looking to bring in Dier in order to make Harry Kane feel more comfortable, as both men have a strong friendship thanks to them breaking into Spurs at the same time.

Tuchel is also believed to be looking for a good cover for the DM position at Bayern and thinks that Dier will be a great fit.

The transfer window ends in two days.
