Dybala’s Roma Contract Extended to 2026 with Exit Clause

Paulo Dybala’s tenure at AS Roma has been extended until the summer of 2026, thanks to a clause in his contract that triggered an automatic renewal. This clause required the Argentine star to reach a specified number of appearances during the 2024-25 season. Having played in 24 matches across Serie A and the Europa League, Dybala has comfortably met the condition, solidifying his stay at the Stadio Olimpico for at least another year.

Dybala’s contract extension reflects his pivotal role in the team this season. Despite some early fitness concerns, the forward has remained a key figure in Roma’s attacking setup, contributing both goals and creativity. His performances have been instrumental in maintaining the club’s competitive edge in both domestic and European campaigns.

Release Clause Keeps Exit Door Open

While his contract has been extended, Dybala’s future at Roma remains uncertain due to the €12 million release clause that still applies. This clause allows other clubs to acquire him for a relatively modest fee, despite his importance to Roma. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that this clause remains valid even after the automatic renewal.

Dybala was close to leaving Roma during the last summer transfer window, with substantial interest from Saudi Arabian clubs offering lucrative deals, as well as Chelsea reportedly considering a move for the playmaker. Although he stayed put, the release clause keeps the possibility of a move alive, making him a potential target in the upcoming transfer window.

Revival Under Ranieri

Since Claudio Ranieri returned to the helm in late 2024, Dybala has experienced a resurgence in form and consistency. Ranieri has shown faith in the forward, starting him in eight consecutive Serie A matches, where Dybala delivered impactful performances. This consistent run has allowed him to regain rhythm and confidence, becoming a vital component of Roma’s lineup.

Dybala’s role has been crucial in maintaining Roma’s push for European qualification and success in the Europa League. Despite coming off the bench in the second half of Sunday’s 2-1 win over Udinese, his influence on the team remains evident.

As the summer transfer window approaches, speculation about Dybala’s future is likely to intensify. While Roma has secured his services until 2026, the lingering release clause ensures that clubs looking to bolster their attacking options will keep a close eye on the Argentine forward.
