Dumfries open to Premier League move

Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries has admitted he would be keen to test himself in England one day if the right chance arises. The wing-back, who is away on international duty, addressed questions about his long-term future during a media appearance with the Netherlands squad.

The 29-year-old underlined his qualities once again in Thursday’s 1-1 draw against Poland, finding the net for the opening goal. That strike was his second in the last three outings for his national team, underlining his growing importance for the Oranje. He is expected to feature again on Sunday evening when the Netherlands face Lithuania in World Cup qualifying.

Views on a possible move to England

Asked whether he is tempted by the idea of playing in the Premier League, Dumfries made no secret of his admiration for the competition.“The Premier League is a fantastic competition. I think I could also do very well in England. If there were a professional opportunity, I would certainly be interested,” he explained.

Reports from Corriere dello Sport indicate that Dumfries’ contract at Inter includes a €25 million release clause, a figure that could attract suitors from the English top flight in the near future. That clause leaves the possibility open for clubs to make a direct approach should they wish to secure his services.

Contrasting styles of football

Beyond his own ambitions, Dumfries offered insight into the differences between the leagues he has experienced and the one he admires from afar. In his words, English football is defined by intensity and relentless pace, while Italian football is more associated with tactical discipline and structure.

“The Premier League is known for its intensity, while Serie A is known for its tactical ability,” Dumfries said, stressing the contrast in approach. He also remarked on the unique nature of the Champions League, which consistently provides encounters between clubs that embody a wide range of footballing philosophies.

Focus on club and country

While speculation about his future continues, Dumfries’ immediate priority remains with his national team as they push towards qualification for the 2026 World Cup. At the same time, his performances for Inter will be closely monitored, with his release clause ensuring any interested clubs know exactly what is required to sign him.
