Borussia Dortmund reportedly want to take Jadon Sancho back to the Westfalenstadion, according to sources close to the player.
Sancho has no way back into the Manchester United squad as long as Erik ten Hag remains the club’s manager. This is as a result of the very widely publicised fallout that they both had earlier in the season.
The solution that both parties – as well as all parties involved by proxy – came to is for Sancho to leave the club permanently or on loan. However, there has been no way out for the former Manchester City academy player.
Until now.
Dortmund, who sold the 23-year-old to United in the 2021/22 season for £73 million, want him back. However, they are not willing to pay a large fee for him, which is why they are exploring a loan option.
The German club also cannot afford to pay his huge wages and are exploring ways where United will continue paying his wages as he turns out in Black and Yellow once more in his career.
Sancho also has interest from Red Bull Leipzig and Juventus, but sources around the player claim that he would rather go back to his old club where he feels more comfortable.
With the club fully aware of the player’s wage being a limitation for clubs signing him, they are resigned to paying at least part of his salary for loan deals. If no solution is found, Sancho is resigned to spending the rest of his season as an ostracised player.
Termination is also not an option that United are willing to consider thanks to the huge payout the player will receive from a termination of his contract.
Meanwhile, fans are afraid that the poor transfer form of Manchester United which promises to change under the INEOS Group is going to get worse. This is because ten Hag has demanded to have the final say in whom the club brings to him.
The Dutchman has not had the best outing in the transfer window since taking over last season. Fans were excited about the prospects of having another body dictate who comes and goes. Now, their hopes are in jeopardy as the much-maligned manager is insisting on keeping his transfer veto powers.
It remains to be seen how things will be going forward as the January 2024 winter transfer window will be the first under the INEOS Group.
