Declan Rice says in an interview with Channel 4 that Jorginho is an “Outstanding trainer” and that his quality in training has “surprised” him.
Rice transferred West Ham to Arsenal for £105 million in the summer, and has immediately adapted to life under Mikel Arteta in the heart of the midfield.
Jorginho, on the other hand, transferred from Chelsea to Arsenal for £12 million during the January transfer window.
Jorginho and Rice are yet to share the midfield spotlight for Arsenal this year, but Rice claims he is eager to pick the Italian’s brain.
Rice admits surprise after watching Jorginho in training
“The one who has surprised me so much, not surprised me because I knew he was such a good player anyway, but playing with him every day in training, seeing how he is because he’s not the biggest, is Jorginho,’ Rice said to Channel 4”.
“His brain, the way it works as a holding midfielder, I’ve just been trying to pick up little things off him”.
“He’s always in position, always knows when to pass, always creates time for himself. He’s an outstanding trainer and I’ve been trying to take little bits from his game as well”.
“I’m trying to learn from everyone, to be honest. I’m only 24, I’ve got all the abilities myself, but there are still things to add to get to the top, and that’s what I want to do”.
“The way we want to play out from the back and how pivotal my position is in that, always being there to be an out-ball, to be a free man, I’m really enjoying it”.
“We never really used to do that in our time at West Ham so it’s kind of going out of your comfort zone a bit, also if I’m doing it more you build so much confidence, which is really good and that is what I want”.
Declan Rice enjoys fine start to his Arsenal career
Declan Rice has enjoyed life at Arsenal so far, since completing a 105m move from West Ham over the summer. He has slotted in perfectly in midfield and has looked assuring leading the Gunners from the midfield.
The highlight of his brilliant performances was capped by a comeback goal against Manchester United, his first for the club via a brilliant strike in the box. As a result, Rice has been named Arsenal’s player of the month for August.
Rice is expected to start in midfield once again and will be looking to keep up his brilliant performances when Arsenal take on Everton at the weekend.
