Cristiano Ronaldo takes Messi in a friendly ahead of Al-Nassr debut

Cristiano Ronaldo is yet to make his debut for Al-Nassr following his suspension in England. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are set to clash in a friendly match between an All-Star side and PSG.

The excitement in football seems to be a thing of the past. The sport has gone to the highest bidder with its heavy commercialization leading it to become a drug of sorts to its followers. The cult followership the sport enjoys no longer stems from the performance of the players on the pitch but rather from the support the clubs and players have.

Mundane things as the wealthiest player and the one with the most Twitter, Instagram and FaceBook fans seem to tickle them over the actual performance on the pitch. It is why a fan would defend his football god with every ounce of his strength despite a poor performance.

Top companies capitalize on the naive followership of the fans to cash out of the game. They are always looking for ingenious ways of making more money, and one cannot begrudge them. The rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi has been a massive cash cow, and they look to cash in again, with over two million fans hoping to see the two stars on the same pitch together again.

A potential matchup between Messi and Ronaldo

The rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo is perhaps the greatest the game has witnessed. Fans of both players have never agreed on who the better player is. They have resorted to judging them by the awards and trophies they have won, with each one a source of bragging right.

Cristiano Ronaldo has not made his debut for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr since signing for the club last month. The Portugal international left Manchester United after simmering problems. He missed the first two matches with Al-Nassr while serving a suspension from England’s Football Association. Ronaldo could make his first appearance in Saudi Arabia in a friendly next week when an All-Star team of players from Al Nassr and Al Hilal take on Paris Saint-Germain.

The two stars will clash on the 19th, with over two million fans hoping to see the match between the pair. Coach Rudi Garcia told L’Equipe (via Reuters) that Ronaldo’s debut won’t be in an Al Nassr jersey. He said it would be a mix of Al Hilal and Al Nassr stars.

When the match will hold

Paris Saint-Germain will fly to Doha on January 17 then the Paris side will travel to Riyahd for the friendly tie. There are two weeks between Ligue 1 matches for the French club. It allows them to take on the friendly.
