Chelsea to sign Lyon defender Malo Gusto – set for medicals

Chelsea are about to sign another player as the transfer window nears the finish line.

The Blues are close to signing Lyon defender Malo Gusto, who is about to undergo medicals. Chelsea have been trigger-happy this season. They have gone on a buying spree since Todd Boehly took over the reins of the west London club from Roman Abramovich. The American owner seems to have itchy fingers and is always excited about signing another player for the Stamford Bridge side.

This season has seen the Blues spend almost €500 million. They have continued to scour the market for players they believe can improve their lot and have hijacked several deals. With the winter transfer window nearing the finish line, the club has not concluded its business, as they have eyes on a few targets.

Chelsea hijacked the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk when Arsenal were the favourites to sign him. They beat the Gunners to the punch with a €70 million bid. They are also looking to hijack other deals, but the latest player set to join the Blues is Lyon defender Malo Gusto. The defender is close to a medical with the Blues.

Chelsea close in on Malo Gusto

Chelsea has been busy this winter. The Blues have gone on a signing spree, with Todd Boehly not ready to slow down. The west London club has already spent more than £150 million on transfers this transfer window. With the curtains close to dropping on the transfer window, Chelsea is on the verge of completing another signing.

The details of a deal for the signing of Ligue 1 sensation Malo Gusto are close to being completed. The player is about to undergo a medical at Chelsea to conclude his proposed move to Stamford Bridge. The Blues agreed to a deal on Friday with Lyon. The deal is worth £26.3m plus add-ons for the highly-rated 19-year-old right-back.

Football.london reports that Gusto has arrived in London for the medical. If everything goes well, he will rejoin Lyon on loan till the end of the season. The 19-year-old is one of the hottest properties in Ligue 1 and has drawn comparisons with Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Qualities of the young Gusto

Gusto rose through Lyon’s youth ranks before making his senior debut at 17. He has played for France up to the U21 level. Gusto was a midfielder before he joined Lyon at 13 and has described himself as attacking, punchy, powerful, fast and technically adept.

Chelsea has brought in six new faces this month at a combined cost of over £150m. If the deal for Gusto is completed, he will become Chelsea’s 20th signing since Todd Boehly took over at Stamford Bridge eight months ago.

Gusto has made 15 appearances for Lyon this season, bringing his total number of appearances for the club to 63. Last season, Lyon reached the Europa League quarterfinals, giving him his first taste of European football.
