Chelsea are looking to keep forward Christopher Nkunku at the club despite interest from clubs overseas.
The player, who joined them in 2023 from RB Leipzig for a little over £50 million, has not made a big splash at the club. He is not a starter despite having one of the highest profiles in the squad, however, he is currently one of their top scorers this season thanks to his great form in cup and European competitions.
This lack of impact at the club has led to speculations about his future with many media reports claiming that the Blues will be open to offers for the France international in the summer of 2025. Now, fresh reports have come out that the club are not willing to participate ways with the 27-year-old despite real interest in his services.
Recently, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca had to speak on the player’s mindset when asked by journalists if he was unhappy with the player or if the player was not reacting well to being a squad option when he came from a club where he was the star.
Maresca replied: “Not at all. I spoke with Christo days ago – he did not say he is not happy.”
Then he declared that the player was going to remain at Chelsea until at least his contract ran out in 2029 before adding: “The problem with Christo, not the problem but the same issue we have mentioned many times; if you play with Cole [Palmer], João [Felix], Christo, Jadon [Sancho] or Noni [Madueke] – who is defending? Their skill is not defending. The last game, we tried with João and Cole together.
“Probably the best moment for Christo with us has been in pre-season, playing in his position. Since we started, he is playing as a nine for us. Against City, he played as a winger; knowing this is not his best position. His best position is as a 10 but Cole is playing there. We need balance.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea have finalised all necessary documents to recall Aaron Anselmino from his long at Boca Juniors in Argentina.
The young centreback was signed from the legendary Argentine side and loaned back to them for the rest of the season. However, their woes in the centre of defence and his impressive displays for the Argentine club have forced the Blues to make the decision to call the player back.
This means that he will join up with his new teammates six months earlier than planned and will begin his journey towards making a mark in Chelsea football history from January.
