The Chelsea team that was submitted to UEFA for their Conference League play-off first leg against Servette on Thursday does not include Ben Chilwell or Raheem Sterling.
Their exclusion from the club’s A list is another evidence that they might go this summer.
The Blues needs to win their games over two legs against the swiss team Servette in order to play European football for the rest of the 2024/2025 season.
At a press conference on Wednesday, head coach Enzo Maresca will likely face additional questions on the futures of Chilwell, 27, and Sterling, 29.
Their departures of both Chilwell and Sterling would deprive a youthful Chelsea squad of two senior players.
Broja close to joining Ipswich Town
Armando Broja, on the other hand, is very close to moving from Chelsea to Ipswich.
The striker is anticipated to be on loan for the entirety of this season, with a mandatory option to purchase him for approximately £30 million; however, this option would only be activated if they manage to avoid Premier League relegation.
A homegrown player, Broja was previously valued at £50m by his club but last season’s loan to Fulham did Chelsea no favours as the 22-year-old failed to score a single goal.
The 22-year-old homegrown talent, was once valued at £50 million by his club last season. However, Broja, during his loan to Fulham last season did Chelsea no favours as the player offered little to nothing and was unable to score any goals.
If Sterling and former Chelsea vice-captain Chilwell have played their final games for the side, there is still time to find out what will happen to them while the transfer window remains open for another week or so.
Chelsea’s bold decision to drop Sterling and Chilwell
Many have raised eyebrows over Maresca’s bold decision to drop senior players but it appears that the Blues’ board are backing the manager and his tactical decision to drop the experienced duo.
After being left out of Chelsea’s opening matchday squad against Wolves, Sterling’s camp released a statement about the player’s exclusion and how they did not agree the manager’s decision.
It is now looking more and more likely that Sterling and Chilwell will leave the club before the transfer window ends or risk the possibility of being frozen out of the Blues’ squad entirely for the remainder of the season. The jury is also out on Enzo Maresca to deliever positive results after making such a bold decision.
