Bruno Fernandes eyeing Saudi Arabia move

Bruno Fernandes is reportedly contemplating a high-profile transfer to Saudi Arabia, with Al-Hilal emerging as a serious contender for his signature. The midfielder’s representatives have recently held talks with officials from the Saudi Pro League club, where a lucrative contract and a chance to participate in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup are on offer.

The Portuguese international, now 30, remains under contract at Manchester United until 2027, with the option for an additional year. However, the financial terms proposed by Al-Hilal are believed to significantly surpass his current earnings, prompting the player to weigh his options.

Amorim hopes for Fernandes to stay

During United’s pre-season tour of Asia, manager Ruben Amorim addressed speculation surrounding his captain’s future. While he expressed optimism that Fernandes is inclined to stay at Old Trafford, he acknowledged the situation remains fluid. “Nobody knows” what might happen, he said, though he added that his conversations with Fernandes have given him the impression the midfielder wants to remain with the team.

Fernandes continues to act with professionalism, maintaining his role as captain without publicly confirming his intentions. Amorim noted that the playmaker has turned down several opportunities already, suggesting a commitment to competing at the highest level.

Potential departure and United’s perspective

Manchester United appear calm about the possibility of losing one of their most influential players. Although Fernandes was recently named the club’s player of the year for a record-equaling fourth time, an £80 million offer could be seen as a chance to rebuild a squad that struggled last season.

Since arriving from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 for £47 million, Fernandes has amassed 98 goals in 290 matches. He was United’s leading scorer last season with 19 goals, and many believe his contributions were crucial in avoiding a disastrous campaign. Despite this, he has faced criticism from figures like Roy Keane, who argue that his leadership lacks discipline.

With Al-Hilal eager to secure a marquee signing ahead of their Club World Cup campaign — where they will compete against clubs like Real Madrid and Red Bull Salzburg — Fernandes’ decision in the coming days could shape not only his own future but United’s plans moving forward.
