Borussia Dortmund seek to replace Jude Bellingham with Weston McKennie

Borussia Dortmund want to dip into the transfer market to sign another midfielder to replace Jude Bellingham. Expectations are that Bellingham will leave the Signal Iduna soon.

Borussia Dortmund have become a production mill for young and talented players. Over the years, they have churned out players of high quality who have gone on to do marvelous things. The list is almost endless, and the German club may have perfected the knack for doing these things.

Some of the players that have adorned the yellow and black shirt of the BVB and done well at other clubs include Ousmane Dembélé, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mario Götze, Ilkay Gündogan, Shinji Kagawa, Alexander Isak and Nuri Sahin. They have successfully become a production line for talented players.

While Erling Haaland, who also left from Borussia Dortmund, is turning the Premier League into a farmer’s league – all eyes are on another BVB player.

Jude Bellingham is the latest sensation to draw worldwide applause, and the rumours are rife of an imminent departure from the Signal Iduna. Reports suggest that Dortmund already have an eye on a replacement, with Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie the target.

Dortmund seeks McKennie as Bellingham replacement

It is only a matter of time before Borussia Dortmund lose another player. The BVB were powerless to do anything about the departure of Erling Haaland last season. As much as they wanted to keep him a little longer, the clause in his contract ensured that Manchester City snared him.

With Jude Bellingham a certainty to leave the Signal Iduna, the BVB have wasted no time finding a replacement. Their searchlight has taken them to Turin, where they hope to sign Weston McKennie. With other clubs on the tail of the American midfielder, Dortmund hopes to sign him in the January transfer window.

According to a report by the Italian publication Tuttosport, McKennie would be a perfect fit for Dortmund should Bellingham leave the German club. The Bundesliga would not be strange to the American, who has previously played for Schalke. The 24-year-old left the Bundesliga for Serie A in 2020 on an initial loan deal before it was made permanent.

Bellingham wanted by Liverpool and Real Madrid

Jude Bellingham has been in the news as a target for some of the top clubs in Europe. Manchester United is one of the clubs gunning for his services. Considering how unserious the Red Devils can be in transfer matters, Real Madrid and Liverpool remain the frontrunners, with both clubs showing genuine intent.

Bellingham performed brilliantly for the Three Lions at the Qatar 2022 World Cup. He was one of the few players that came out of the English setup with his head held high. It is more likely he will leave in the summer than next month, but Dortmund is trying to cover all bases by seeking a replacement.

Dortmund can expect a windfall from the sale of Bellingham. The sale of the Englishman should fund the signing of McKennie from Juventus.

The 19-year-old Bellingham should cost over $125 million in the summer, while $32 million should convince Juventus to part with McKennie.

Meanwhile, Juventus have their eyes on Alexis Mac Allister, who currently plays for English Premier League team Brighton.
