Blow for Liverpool as Arthur Melo is out for the rest of the year

Liverpool have been hit with another blow following the news of an injury to Arthur Melo during training. The Brazilian midfielder is due for surgery that will keep him out for the rest of the year.

It needs no telling that Liverpool are in a situation that in recent years is unfamiliar. The Anfield side is struggling for points and is watching their rivals for the title streak away.

Jurgen Klopp oversees a side that has been hit this season with mind-boggling injuries. Liverpool are scraping the bottom of the barrel for personnel to get back to winning ways. The Reds are tenth on the log with ten points from seven games. Two victories in the kitty tell the painful story of a side close to winning the Premier League last term.

Battling with injuries, Liverpool contends with another injury woe. In the lead to the tie against league leaders Arsenal, Liverpool have lost another midfielder. Arthur Melo, who joined on a season-long loan move from Juventus, is out of the tie against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Arthur Melo is out for 2022

Ahead of the game against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, Liverpool have another blow following the news of an injury to Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo. According to reports, Arthur will be out for the rest of the year. Arthur had an outside chance of making the Brazil squad to the World Cup in November, but it is all gone now. Arthur will now have to watch the Qatar World Cup on TV like the rest of us.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed that the Brazilian was out of the Arsenal tie. Arthur Melo has been fighting to break into the Liverpool first team. The latest injury reports are now a massive setback for the midfielder.

Arthur now joins the shortlist of Liverpool players in the busy Anfield treatment room. He suffered a muscular injury in training that kept him out of the 2-0 home Champions League win over Rangers on Tuesday evening.

The medics are yet to ascertain how long he will spend on the sidelines, with Klopp saying further assessment was required. The initial prognosis suggests the Brazilian will be out for the rest of the year.

An injury crisis at Anfield

Liverpool appear to be facing a worst-case scenario over the 26-year-old. According to The Athletic, Arthur Melo requires surgery and will likely be out for between three to four months to recover. It effectively rules him out for the rest of the calendar year.

Before his injury, Arthur, a former Barcelona midfielder, had made just one senior cameo for the Reds and is yet to appear in the Premier League. He came in as a late substitute in the 4-1 Champions League loss to Napoli in Italy last month.

Arthur featured for Barry Lewtas’s Under-21 side in the EFL Trophy to boost his fitness. He played 63 minutes as they lost 1-0 to League Two strugglers Rochdale at Spotland.

Liverpool have endured a terrible injury fortune this term. It is their worst start to a season under Klopp, with the Reds 13 points off league leaders Arsenal. Other players missing in action this term are Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson, with Naby Keita Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain still on the sidelines.
