Besiktas Targets Atlético’s Norwegian Striker

Turkish giants Besiktas have reportedly identified Alexander Sørloth of Atlético Madrid as a priority target in the January transfer window. The Norwegian striker has caught the attention of the Super Lig side as they look to bolster their attacking ranks.

A Promising Start in Spain

Since making the move from Villarreal to Atlético Madrid last summer, Sørloth has showcased his quality in Spain’s capital. The 29-year-old forward has netted 10 goals and provided 2 assists in 27 appearances, delivering a strong return in front of goal.

Despite these contributions, Sørloth has yet to cement himself as an undisputed starter under Diego Simeone. The highly competitive nature of Atlético’s squad and Simeone’s tactical rotations have limited Sørloth’s role at times, leaving the door open for interested clubs to explore his availability.

Solskjær Keen on Norwegian Reunion

At Besiktas, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær is keen to reunite with his fellow countryman as part of his plan to revamp the club’s attack for the second half of the season. The ex-Manchester United boss sees Sørloth as a natural fit for his system and a player who could bring both physicality and finishing prowess to the team.

According to reports, Besiktas is pursuing an initial six-month loan deal to bring Sørloth to Istanbul. Such a move would provide the striker with a chance to play more regularly, while also addressing Besiktas’ need for a clinical forward.

Atlético Madrid Unlikely to Budge

Despite Besiktas’ interest, Atlético Madrid is believed to be reluctant to part ways with Sørloth, even temporarily. The La Liga outfit values the striker’s contributions and depth in their squad, particularly as they compete on multiple fronts this season.

While Besiktas may continue to push for a deal, prying Sørloth away from Madrid could prove a challenging task. For now, it remains to be seen whether the Turkish club can convince Atlético to reconsider their stance or if Sørloth will remain in Spain for the foreseeable future.
