Bayern Munich have renewed their pursuit of Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku, according to The Athletic. The Bundesliga giants initially expressed their desire to sign the French international during the winter transfer window. At the time, Bayern attempted to include young forward Mathys Tel in negotiations to reduce Chelsea’s valuation of the 27-year-old, but talks eventually broke down.
Tel, who was previously seen as a potential bargaining chip, is no longer an option for the German club. He has since secured a permanent transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, a move that takes him to one of Chelsea’s direct Premier League rivals. As a result, Bayern are now unlikely to offer a player in exchange as part of any new proposal for Nkunku.
Nkunku seen as Musiala cover while Díaz remains target
The German champions remain active in their search for reinforcements in attack. They are also attempting to finalize a move for Liverpool’s Luis Díaz, having reportedly received encouraging signals from the Colombian’s representatives. Despite this, Bayern are open to the idea of signing both Díaz and Nkunku.
Nkunku is viewed as a possible short-term solution to cover the absence of Jamal Musiala, who is sidelined for at least four months. Although the former RB Leipzig forward has occasionally played out wide, his most productive performances have come in central attacking roles. His addition would not only fill the immediate void left by Musiala but also provide Bayern with more depth once the young German star returns to action.
Chelsea, for their part, are only open to a full sale of Nkunku, ruling out a loan. Still, given both clubs’ current needs and circumstances, a permanent deal could be feasible.
