Barcelona have reportedly expressed strong interest in Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak following his standout performances in the Premier League. The Swedish forward has netted 19 goals and provided five assists in 25 league appearances, attracting the attention of several top European clubs.
Despite Barcelona’s admiration for Isak, securing his signature could be difficult. Newcastle are likely to demand a substantial fee, with valuations reaching as high as £150 million. Such a sum would challenge Barcelona’s financial flexibility, making the pursuit of the 24-year-old a complicated prospect.
Renewed pursuit of Sandro Tonali
In addition to Isak, Barcelona are also reigniting their interest in midfielder Sandro Tonali. The Italian has long been on the Catalan club’s radar, with their pursuit dating back five years. Previously, Barcelona submitted a €65 million (£54.3 million) bid for Tonali in 2020 while he was at Brescia, but their offer was rejected.
Now at Newcastle, Tonali remains a highly regarded talent. His defensive skills and exceptional passing abilities align with Barcelona’s tactical style. However, Newcastle’s £58 million investment in Tonali and his contract running until 2028 give the Magpies firm control over his future.
While Barcelona scouts continue to report positively on Tonali’s performances, a move remains uncertain due to the anticipated financial demands. Newcastle are reluctant to part ways with the influential midfielder, and Tonali himself has conveyed contentment at St James’ Park despite ongoing speculation.
Sean Longstaff’s uncertain future
Meanwhile, another Newcastle midfielder, Sean Longstaff, could be on the move. The academy graduate has fallen out of favor under manager Eddie Howe and has just 12 months remaining on his current contract.
Longstaff’s situation has piqued the interest of Manchester United, who have held a longstanding admiration for the midfielder. With Newcastle potentially open to negotiations, a move to Old Trafford may be a realistic option for the 26-year-old in the upcoming transfer window.
