Barcelona Eyes Diaz Swap Amid Financial Strain

Barcelona are preparing for at least one high-profile departure this summer as they aim to balance their finances before the new campaign. The club has encountered another economic setback after La Liga chose to exclude a €100 million VIP seat transaction from their revenue, leading to a reduced wage cap for the 2025/26 season.

In response, the Catalan side remains focused on operating under their 1:1 spending rule, meaning any transfer outlay must be directly funded through verifiable income. As part of this financial restructuring, ongoing contract negotiations with players such as Lamine Yamal and Wojciech Szczesny have reportedly been placed on hold. Head coach Hansi Flick may be required to sanction the exit of an important squad member to stay compliant with financial regulations and support potential reinforcements.

Araujo Tipped for Summer Exit Amid Liverpool Links

Central defender Ronald Araujo has emerged as the primary candidate to be sold due to his substantial market value. Although the Uruguayan international was close to leaving during the winter transfer window, he eventually agreed to a contract extension with the club. However, the updated terms include a notable clause that may now influence Barcelona’s summer plans.

According to Relevo, Araujo’s current release clause stands at €65 million until July 16. After that date, the clause will reportedly increase to over €1 billion, drastically reducing the likelihood of a move unless it’s triggered before the deadline. Barcelona are believed to be hoping a club activates the clause to help ease their financial burden.

In light of this, there is growing speculation around a potential exchange deal with Liverpool involving winger Luis Díaz. Barcelona are keen on the Colombian star but are not in a financial position to propose a direct cash offer. A swap involving Araujo is being considered, although the exact structure of such a deal remains uncertain. With doubts surrounding Virgil van Dijk’s future at Anfield, Liverpool manager Arne Slot may be interested in securing a new leader in defense.
