Barcelona has announced that manager Hansi Flick has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until June 2027. The German coach, who joined on an initial two-year agreement in May 2024, has earned the extension after guiding the team to an impressive season.
In his first campaign in charge, Flick led the Catalan side to victory in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. Barcelona also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they were eliminated by Inter Milan.
Club praises coach’s impact
In a statement, the club expressed its appreciation for the influence Flick has had in his debut year. They highlighted his role in boosting team morale, inspiring dramatic victories, and helping secure multiple titles.
Barcelona credited Flick with bringing renewed energy to the squad and restoring the team’s reputation on the European stage. According to the statement, his presence has made the club a formidable opponent once again.
From Bayern success to Barcelona revival
Flick, 60, had previously enjoyed a highly successful spell at Bayern Munich, where he led the German side to a Treble in 2020, capturing the Bundesliga, German Cup, and Champions League titles.
After leaving Bayern, he took charge of the German national team but was dismissed in September 2023. He then took over at Barcelona, replacing Xavi as head coach.
The Spanish champions expressed confidence in Flick’s continued leadership, stating that he is shaping a new chapter in the club’s history and that they believe his achievements will carry on in the seasons to come.
