Axel Disasi spoke after the defeat to Wolves, and gave his assessment on Christopher Nkunku first goal for Chelsea.
Chelsea lost 2-1 on Christmas eve at Molineux despite having control throughout the entirety of the game and creating several excellent chances, but were unable to score until Nkunku’s late consolation.
Inconsistency has been a theme of the season so far. There has been an uplift in our home form in the past two months, but our performances on the road have suffered. It is now four defeats on the spin away from the Bridge, with the latest setback disappointing Disasi.
Disasi disappointed after Chelsea’s defeat to Wolves
“We are very frustrated and angry after the game,” he said.
“We didn’t win and we feel we deserved more when you see the game.”
“We did good things and bad things. We have to address the mistakes, and when we have the possibility to score, we have to score. We have to see where we can improve and keep going.”
Chelsea will be in 10th place on Christmas Day. A key reason for that is their inconsistency in front of goal. According to Opta data, we have missed more big chances than any other side in the Premier League this season.
“When we see this statistic and our position in the table, it’s not good,” Disasi reflected.
“We have to be more killer in front of goal. We created many chances. But it’s not just about scoring, it’s also about conceding less and keeping clean sheets”.
“Every training and every game we are growing and learning, we have a lot of new players, but it’s not an excuse”, added Disasi. “The quality is here.”
“I know the feeling now is bad because we didn’t succeed, but we have to stay together. We have to take a rest now because we have a lot of games coming.”
Disasi addressed Nkunku in his final remarks. He hopes Nkunku will add an extra dimension to the Blues attack in the second half of the season.
“Everyone knows the quality of Christo. He came back from a long injury, and I’m happy for him and the team he scored.”
“He will help us for sure because he has a lot of quality.”
