Aubameyang releases statement after home attack by robbers

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made a statement following the robbery attack on his home on Monday morning. The striker who suffered a broken jaw also thanked his fans for their support.

Things have gone awry for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. When Barcelona signed the Gabon international striker in January, it was a boost to a flagging career. It looked like he was back for good as he scored a brace against Real Madrid in the El Clasico. Things have, however, not been the same since the arrival of Robert Lewandowski this summer.

Aubameyang has fallen to the bench, with playing time at a premium. When it rains, it pours, and a few days ago, the Gabon international was a victim of a home invasion. Armed men invaded his house and assaulted the striker and his family. He also lost personal valuables.

Aubameyang speaks after the robbery attack

The robbery attack on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and his family was well publicized. Armed robbers invaded the home of the Barcelona striker.

The attack happened after the game against Real Sociedad at the weekend. Aubameyang was an unused substitute and suffered after the attack that occurred in the early hours of Monday morning by at least four armed robbers.

The Gabonese has spoken for the first time since the armed robbery attack. In the moving statement, the Barcelona forward described the criminals who invaded his house as violent cowards.

Aubameyang took to social media midweek to express his appreciation to fans for their support. He vowed that he and his family would overcome the ordeal.

In a Twitter post, he thanked his fans for all the messages and well-wishes.

The robbery incident and its effect

Reports in Spain claim that the attack on Aubameyang happened with at least four men armed with firearms and iron bars invading his home. They made their way into the house through the garden.

The report claims the armed gang intimidated his wife into opening the safe. They then made away with several valuables, including jewellery, before fleeing the scene in an Audi.

Reports on Wednesday also revealed that Aubameyang, while trying to defend his family, suffered a broken jaw following the invasion by the armed hoodlums.

Aubameyang claims they injured his jaw, but he will recover in no time. He also thanked God no one else was hurt.

The timing of the attack on the home of the Barca forward is critical as it puts the fate of the Gabon international in the balance. It comes as Chelsea pursues the striker ahead of the Thursday transfer deadline. The Blues hope to sign the striker before the curtains fall on the summer window, but it will take time to recover from the injury.

Thomas Tuchel is a massive admirer of the Barca striker and could hand him a route back to the Premier League. The former Borussia Dortmund ace was axed at Arsenal but would get regular playing time at Chelsea.

In 23 appearances at Barcelona, Aubameyang has managed 13 goals but has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Robert Lewandowski. He has made just one off-the-bench appearance this campaign.
