Arsenal two signings away from the Premier League title, says Paul Scholes

Paul Scholes believes that Arsenal need two or three more signings to propel them to the 2022/23 Premier League title ahead of defending champions Manchester City.

A heavy wind of change has blown over the Emirate stadium. Fans are happy, staff are happy, the players are happy, and the atmosphere is electric every time. Mikel Arteta’s process has finally come to a head and the results are being witnessed.

The club is currently first on the Premier League table with only one loss and two draws from 19 games played so far. Their defensive record is also the second best in the league and they are the outright favourites for this season’s title.

However, Arteta is in a title race with his former boss, Pep Guardiola, who has a penchant for frustrating teams up until the last day. Five points separate them both, and this could have been different if the outcome of their match against Manchester United on Sunday ended in a draw or an unfortunate loss for the Gunners.

Arteta has a solid team but is short of some much needed quality that can provide the extra push to the title come May 2023. This is the opinion that Paul Scholes holds and expressed on the Premier League show.

The Gunners have already completed two transfers this period. 28-year-old Belgian forward Leandro Trossard came in from Brighton and Hove Albion for £27 million to provide depth on the left side of attack while 22-year-old defender Jakub Kiwior came in for £21 million from Italian side Spezia.

Trossard has already made his debut, and also showed what he could bring to the side after his contribution led to the tie-breaker goal from Eddie Nketiah which turned out to be the match winner against Manchester United on Sunday.

Scholes, however, believes that those two signings are not enough and that two or three more signings will help them seal the deal.

“When you are going for titles, you need strong squads, you need players who can come in and replace players,” Scholes told Premier League Productions.

“Those players that come in might not always be as good as the starters, but they might even be better from the bench.

“When Leandro Trossard came on for Gabriel Martinelli [vs United], I didn’t think it weakened Arsenal, it really didn’t.

“So I think Trossard is a great signing. Two or three more would really boost this team to go on and win the Premier League.”
