Arsenal open to departure of key forward this summer

Arsenal are reportedly open to selling Gabriel Martinelli this summer — but only if they receive an offer that exceeds his market value.

Since making his first-team debut in 2019, Gabriel Martinelli has racked up 48 goals and 26 assists in 209 appearances for Arsenal. The dynamic left winger has been instrumental in Mikel Arteta’s side’s resurgence as Premier League title contenders.

Martinelli was in blistering form during the 2022-23 season, bagging 15 goals and providing five assists in 36 Premier League outings.

However, his impact has gradually diminished since then, hampered by recurring injury setbacks and intense competition for a spot in the starting lineup.

Arteta also has the option of deploying Leandro Trossard and Raheem Sterling on the left flank, with Arsenal reportedly planning to target a versatile winger in the summer transfer window.

According to the Mirror, Arsenal could offload either Martinelli or Trossard this summer to raise funds for a major transfer spree.

The Athletic has now weighed in with its own update on Martinelli’s situation.

Martinelli’s status within the Arsenal squad has shifted this season, and he’s no longer seen as untouchable.

Arsenal’s hierarchy is prepared to let Martinelli leave if they receive a bid that exceeds his market value. This comes despite Mikel Arteta being a huge admirer of the Brazilian, even calling him “incredible” after their win over Manchester City in October 2023.

Saudi Arabia Emerges as a Potential Destination

Arsenal aren’t actively looking to sell Martinelli, but his importance to the squad has diminished compared to previous seasons. The Gunners may soon target a new left winger who can deliver more consistent goal contributions than the 23-year-old.

Arsenal’s exact valuation of Martinelli remains unclear, though he’s previously been rated as high as £70 million.

When reporting Arsenal’s willingness to sell Martinelli or Trossard, the Mirror identified Saudi Arabia as the most likely destination for the Brazilian.

With their immense spending power, Saudi clubs could easily meet Arsenal’s demands and pay over the odds for Martinelli. However, the 23-year-old would likely need some convincing to leave top-level European football for a move to the Middle East.

Partey’s Future and Midfield Reinforcements

In a surprising twist, Arsenal are reportedly ready to offer Thomas Partey a new contract — a shift from their earlier stance of being open to selling the midfielder.

Arsenal value Partey’s versatility, with his ability to slot in as a midfielder or at right-back, but they’re keen for him to agree to a pay cut in any new deal.

Even if Partey remains at the club for another season, Arsenal will still need to sign a long-term midfield successor.

Arsenal are reportedly considering Atletico Madrid’s Pablo Barrios as a potential alternative to their primary midfield target, Martin Zubimendi.
