Arne Slot could finally get first summer transfer as Liverpool and Ademola Lookman linked

In a shocking twist of events, Liverpool are looking at Ademola Lookman as the summer winds down.

Liverpool signed Arne Slot before the 2023/24 season ended as Jürgen Klopp said goodbye to Anfield following a glittering nine years that were only marred by Manchester City constantly thwarting his title-winning efforts.

This proactiveness from Fenway Sports Group made fans anticipate a brilliant summer transfer window, especially after the club finished short of their season’s expectations – failing to win any trophies despite being in pole positions to win all. At the time of writing, the Reds have not signed a single new player with their only transfer business to date being in the managerial department.

Many players have been linked and are still being linked, but none have been as shocking as the recent links between the 19-time English football top-flight champions and Ademola Lookman.

Reports suggest that the Reds could go in for the Nigerian winger, who took the world by storm last season. Lookman has had stints at Leicester City, Chelsea and Everton in previous Premier League seasons but it was not until his move to Italy that he truly exploded.

The former Charlton Athletic winger has spent two years in Bergamo with La Dea and has become one of their most important players. He was pivotal to their finish in the Serie A last season and was the man responsible for Serie A being the most represented team in the new-look UEFA Champions League which will kick off in September 2024.

His hattrick in the 2024 UEFA Europa League final is the first hattrick in a European final in decades and it was responsible for ruining one of the best unbeaten runs that this generation has ever seen: Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten run across all competitions. It is also the hattrick that was responsible for Atalanta’s first-ever top-flight title as well as Gian Piero Gasperini’s first official title as a manager.

It is expected that the former Red Bull Leipzig man will move on from Atalanta but not many expected Liverpool to be among the teams mentioned. Lookman is already linked with Paris Saint-Germain, with reports even claiming that both parties have agreed to terms of a deal.

Atalanta, however, are demanding a hefty £51.1 million fee for the player, which is twice the amount PSG are willing to pay. This presents an opportunity for Liverpool if the reports of their interest in the forward are anything to go by.

Lookman is British-born, which also gives the Reds an edge in the race to secure his signature for the 2024/25 season and beyond. They remain in contact and believe they stand a better chance of snagging the Nigerian despite his already-concluded talks with PSG.
